<description>Campaigning experience ranging from South Africa's first democratic elections (1992-94) to working as Emergencies Media Manager for UNICEF.

Syria
As emergency media manager for UNICEF UK, helped ensure coverage of humanitarian needs of millions of Syrians with the country and those forced over the borders to Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey.

Climate Change
As media manager for UNICEF UK helped coordinate the campaign to ensure that children were not forgotten at the international climate change talks in Rio in June 2012 and Doha in December 2012. Worked closely with numerous figures including UNICEF UK president, Lord Ashdown.

Western Sahara
What was most shocking about a trip to the Saharawi refugee camps in 2009 to report for the Independent newspaper was not the abject conditions but the fact that I had not even heard about this conflict. Working with the Western Sahara Campaign UK I set up the Free Western Sahara Network which aims to link campaigners around the world and raise awareness of this 37 year forgotten conflict.

FiSahara Film Festival
The Sahara International Film Festival is the only film festival to take place in a refugee camp. Now in its 9th edition, FiSahara brings film stars and industry insiders deep into the Sahara desert to live beside the Saharawi refugees from Western Sahara. Read more here and contact me if you would like to attend the festival in 2013 or submit a film.

Westminster Committee on Iran
Set-up in 2007 this informal committee aims to increase dialogue and understanding between parliamentarians and opinion formers in Tehran, Britain and around the world with a view to avoiding nuclear proliferation and military conflict.

The Occupy Movement
Time spent with the Occupy Wall Street protesters in Zuccotti Park and Occupy London. Speaker at the Bank of Ideas and regular writer for the Occupied Times.

Reg Keys Election Campaign (2005)
One of the most memorable moments of the 2005 general elections was Reg Key's concession speech in Tony Blair's constituency of Sedgefield. Key's had lost his son in Iraq and wanted Blair to be held to account for the illegal war. Read how Keys, together with Brian Eno and a small group of activists came close to making history by defeating a sitting Prime Minister.

Human Shield Movement 2003
In January 2003, in an effort to forestall the rush to war, a small team of activists set-up the Human Shield Movement. Read about it here

ANC Election Campaign (South Africa 1992-4)
Having been active in the Anti-Apartheid Movement I went to South Africa after graduating to work for the ANC on the first democratic elections helping to run the press office in the Western Cape.
The ANC at 100: Debunking the Myths - Spring 2012

OTHER CAMPAIGNS
Simanowitz has worked for and with other campaigning organisations including Liberty,
UNICEF, Citizen's Advice Bureau, ARVAC, AVMA, War On Want, Reprieve, NCVO, Compact Voice, Amnesty International, Save the Children , Oxfam, European Disability Forum.
